Vivo Announces Apex 2019 with No Ports, No Buttons, But With 5G and Snapdragon 855

It seems like Vivo has decided to pull out something unearthly every time it creates a smartphone. After it shocked the world last February with Vivo Apex, the company is ready with yet another handset named Vivo Apex (2019).

The company announced a phone unlike any other device today in the market named the Apex 2019. At a press conference in the capital Beijing, Vivo took the stage to announce a smartphone that has no openings such as ports or headphone jack and no buttons whatsoever.

With a magnetic back, the device comes with a technology called MagPort to let you charge the device as well as transfer data. This is the first time in smartphone history that will be released without any ports or buttons.

What it is then? Just a glass and metal slab that has a flowing design and rounded edges. You will virtually find no bezels at the front and the Chinese smartphone manufacturer got rid of the front camera too. Coming to the hardware front, the device is power driven by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processors, coupled with massive 12GB RAM and 256GB internal memory. The smartphone also comes with 5G modules inserted by using a duplex PCB design.

With no openings or protrusions at the back, the rear camera sits completely leveled with the device body. Even the power button or even any button such as volume rockers are Absent. Vivo has used a new technology called Touch Sense. This new technology is a blend of capacitive touch and pressure sensing designed carefully for software and programming logic to translate touch inputs into corresponding actions along the sides of the frame.

Notably, there is no earpiece or grille on the device. Instead, the display is transformed into a sound device with Body SoundCasting technology, something Vivo has used earlier. To unlock the device, Vivo has retained the in-display fingerprint sensor. But instead covering a certain part of the surface, the sensors cover almost entire display surface.

This basically implies that any touch on the display will unlock the device, which might be annoying at times. For that, Vivo is introducing Fingerprint Light feature that lights up the display area to get a detailed image of the fingerprint before unlocking the device.

Basically, you’ll be able to touch anywhere on the screen to unlock the device, and Vivo is relying on a Fingerprint Light feature to light up the area around your finger to get a detailed fingerprint image.
