Design
Oppo Reno and Samsung Galaxy A80 feature a futuristic design approach with a notch-less display and a high screen-to-body ratio. Thanks to their rotating and pop-up camera modules, they leave behind Google Pixel 3a’s thick bezel design. Google Pixel 3a XL also has a full plastic body giving it poor build quality. On the other hands, Samsung Galaxy A8 comes strong with a metal finish in the design. But we personally like Oppo Reno’s glass back finish. Unlike its older smartphones from the Pixel 3 line-up, Pixel 3a also lacks an IP certification.
Winner: Oppo Reno
Display
All these devices feature beautiful OLED displays with deep blacks and vivid colors. While Samsung Galaxy A80 offers a bigger display size due to higher 20:9 aspect ratio, we can still put Oppo Reno ahead for its incredible color accuracy. But if you are a multimedia lover, you will only all three displays but you will choose Google Pixel 3a XL over the other two for its louder stereo speakers.
Winner: Google Pixel 3a XL
Specs & Software
Someone looking for the best performing device can blindly choose Samsung Galaxy A80 for its most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset running with eight cores at a maximum frequency of 2.2GHz. Furthermore, the device from Samsung also has an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage option but there’s no storage expansion available with a microSD card. On the other hand, the Oppo Reno offers a good chipset alongside 8GB RAM and 256GB storage available. When it comes to Google Pixel 3a, it will offer quick security patches and updates on the stock Android but it lacks to compete with the RAM and storage options by the other two.
Winner: Oppo Reno
Camera
Even though Google Pixel 3a XL has a single rear sensor, it is still the best camera among the three thanks to the similar sensor as the Pixel 3. The low-light shots are amazing and day-time shots fall in flagship level photos. The second place goes to Samsung Galaxy A80 which has an ultrawide sensor as well as a TOF 3D lens. This same camera also clicks the selfies thanks to the rotating camera setup. Oppo has a big configuration on the lenses but it, unfortunately, fails to compete with the other two.
Winner: Google Pixel 3a XL
Battery
With a slight margin, Oppo wins this battle whereas Samsung Galaxy A80 and Pixel 3a XL has similar battery power.
Winner: Oppo Reno
Verdict
Even though Google Pixel 3a XL has a lower price than the other two and Samsung Galaxy A80 is the most expensive among all, we still think that the Samsung device can outperform the other two. Though it has not stood out as a winner in any of the segments, it still has the perfect balance of pros and cons to outshine the other two in this price segment.
