The Lenovo-owned brand, like most of the other Android device manufacturers, is trying to walk off the line to try something different with its new smartphones.

Leaked renders coming of Moto Z4 Play and Motorola P40 suggested minimal bezel design. Neither of the two designs feels original but one can say that the notch is inspired by Apple’s iPhone X.

For now, the only thing we knew about Moto Z4 Play was that it will sport a waterdrop notch. The rumors about features and specs have been taking rounds for quite a while. But guys at 91Mobiles have claimed that they have information from a “reliable source who wishes to remain anonymous” who shared a number of key details.

Powerful Mid-Range Processor and Single Rear Camera

Starting off with an “edge-to-edge” display, the company has constructed a nicely refined design. With a 6.2-inch panel featuring a tiny U-shaped notch, the new Moto Z4 Play sports a slightly thick chin and razor-thin top bezel. This will be a major upgrade over its predecessor the Moto Z3 Play.

The smartphone will be power-driven by a Snapdragon 675 SoC which is a big upgrade on the raw power since the previous model Z3 play had Snapdragon 636 processor. Of course, we are looking at two mid-range chipsets here. But 675 is comparatively faster clocking at 2 GHz and an energy-efficient 11nm production process, capable of working better with AI and imaging department.

Speaking of setbacks, few people were disappointed to notice a single rear-facing shooter given the Z3 Play sports a dual-camera setup at the back. For those, you will be happy to know that the single sensor spotted at the rear end of Moto Z4 Play is a 48MP shooter.

The report from 91Mobiles confirmed that we will be witnessing a single 48MP lens similar to that of Honor View 20 and Huawei Nova 4. Interestingly, the Huawei owned smartphones have also included another sensor to support 48MP snapper. But Motorola doesn’t seem to care about another sensor. If you are thinking that a single lens at the rear end might take bokeh effect and portrait shot out of the equation then you are wrong. Remember Pixel 3 can do these things with a 12MP shooter, then if we follow the theory, 48MP can do wonders.

In-Display Fingerprint Sensor and Big Battery

We know that 2018’s Moto Z3 Play had an average battery, that barely lasted half a day if used heavily. The 3,000 mAh battery wasn’t enough for the device. This time around, Moto Z4 Play is expected to get 3,600 mAh of battery life. Now, if we look at a 6.22-inch Super AMOLED display with 2340 x 1080 pixels FHD+ resolution, that can be enough juice to cover a whole day’s work.

But, there is another highlight of the device “invisible” to everyone. We are talking about an in-display fingerprint sensor. There was an awkward side-mounted physical biometric sensor on Moto Z3 which will now get a huge upgrade reportedly.

Moto Z4 Play Prices and Release Date

The devices are supposedly coming out in two storage variants including 4GB RAM plus 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM plus 128GB storage. Both the devices will reportedly get a price tag over $600, which in our opinion, is a bit high when compared to other Android flagships such as OnePlus 6T. Let’s see how it is received after its launch on MWC 2019 later this month.
