Huawei P40 Pro will be the follow up to last year’s Huawei P30 Pro which appeared with a custom RYYB sensor rebuilding the traditional RGB sensor. The Huawei P40 Pro is also anticipated to possess a custom RYYB sensor. According to a report, citing data gleaned from a closed-door briefing session. The phone will arrive with a “Second Generation Periscope Zoom Camera” and “never before seen” AI proficiency.
Huawei is set to unveil its flagship P40 series on March 26th. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the launch event will happen online instead of Paris. The P40 lineup is expected to arrive in standard, Pro and Pro PE edition variants. A few days ahead of the launch, a leaked teaser poster of the P40 series has surfaced online revealing a triple front camera setup with the hashtag #VisionaryPhotography. Previously, Huawei CEO Richard Yu had said that the P40 series will debut with a new design, upgraded camera, processor and battery life.
A report claims that the Huawei P40 Pro will enhance on the technology showcased with the Huawei P30 Pro last year. It shows “Guarantees New Records” in mobile photography. The report mentions that the Huawei P40 Pro will appear with a second-generation periscope zoom camera. To remembering, the periscope zoom camera on the Huawei P30 Pro allowed 5x optical zoom, up to 10x hybrid zoom, and 50x digital zoom.
The report also acknowledges that the second-generation tech coming in the Huawei P40 Pro will enhance the hybrid zoom range as well as the better optical zoom capacities. A Huawei representative at a closed-door briefing said, “Huawei has invested a lot in this tech and wouldn’t prefer it to go to waste,” in respects to the RYYB sensor returning to the Huawei P40 Pro. The RYYB sensor enables more light to pass through than a common RGB sensor which in turn, enables to capture greater detail. All of this will possibly work together to set “new records” as the company asserts.
The tease poster confirms triple front cameras on the P40 series, however, it is unclear if all the variants from the lineup will be equipped with the same. The camera sensors are located inside a punch-hole cutout at the top left corner of the display. One can expect it to be wider than a dual-punch hole cutout. The teaser image also reveals almost non-existent bezels on the left and right sides. Apart from this, the poster doesn’t reveal any more information.
Recently, a couple of images leaked, one of which was a poster for the launch event which exhibited one of the devices. It is most likely the Huawei P40 Pro variant, with triple front cameras. The other impression was of a case for the Huawei P40 Pro with the Porsche Design logo on it. The Huawei P40 Pro is anticipated to appear with a quad rear camera setup and a 6.5-inch to 6.7-inch screen.
Going by the past leaks and rumors, the Huawei P40 series is expected to sport OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate screen. Both the standard and Pro variants will feature a rectangular shaped rear camera module. The former is expected to house triple sensors while the latter could be equipped with five sensors. The camera configuration on the Pro model is rumored to consist of a 52MP RYYB lens, 40MP ultrawide Cine RGGB sensor, a telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom, a dual prism periscope zoom lens with 10x optical zoom and lastly a ToF 3D sensor. The front camera setup on the P40 series is not known yet.
On the hardware front, the Huawei P40 series is expected to house Kirin 990 SoC. It will be available in different RAM and storage configurations up to 12GB and 512GB respectively. The P40 series will feature 5G connectivity with support for dual-mode networks. Both the standard and Pro models were recently certified by Thailand’s NTBC. The smartphones will come with Wi-Fi 6, USB-C and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
