The two-day event has started yesterday. This mega event named Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) for the year 2019 started from October 14 to October 16. In this event, we have are expecting to see the topmost persons of the Corporate sector in India which include Sunila Bharti Mittal (Airtel), Mukesh Ambani (Reliance) as well as Kumar Mangalam Birla (Vodafone-Idea). Not only this but also the next generation entrepreneurs will be attending the summit.

There is a session named ‘Leaders for the Next Generation’  where the upcoming entrepreneurs such as Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani (Reliance), Ananya Birla (songwriter and singer), Kavin Mittal (Hike Messenger), Manu Kumar Jain (Xiaomi India), Rishad Premji (Wipro) as well as Vijay Shekhar Sharma (PayTm) are expected to take part in this mind-blowing session where they will be sharing their thought.

But unfortunately, the third edition of the India Mobile Congress has shown the disappointment in the field of the telecom sector. Which means the first day of the event were marked by the empty seats because of the absence of the most prestigious persons such as Mukesh Ambani (Chairman of Reliance Industries), Sunil Bharti Mittal (Chairman of Bharti Enterprises) as well as various other government luminaries.

Earlier we were expecting to see Home Minister of India, Amit Shah who was going to inaugurate this mega event and he was expected to give some key announcement apart from demos of major 5G use cases. Not only this there was also news where the Council of Ministers who are engaged in various issues related to the same industry which include the resurgence of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) as well as Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). However, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Commerce and Industry is expected to be the chief guest of the second day and Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways was scheduled to speak at the session related to ‘Cars and Connected Platform’.

But both Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari gave the telecom department’s marque event a big miss. The main reason behind the absence of Nitin Gadkari is he is busy campaigning for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

A report from the Government sources stated that both Sunil Bharti Mittal and Mukesh Ambani declined the invitation of this mega event a month back. The main representatives from the Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm as well as Vodafone Idea which include Vodafone Idea Chairman KM Birla, Mahendra Nahata, Jio board member, Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Rakesh Bharti Mittal are the key members of the even and they discussed with the Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Telecom Minister and Anshu Prakash, the Telecom Secretary to help in removing the financial stress which is going on in this sector as well as raised several other issues.

The exhibitions stalls which were set up remained but the government claimed that the event was much bigger as compared to the last year. Anshu Prakash mentioned that the total area of the event was 60,000 square meters. But last year, the event covered only 35,000 square meters as well as this time around 500 companies participated in this event. On the other hand, 200 companies participated in the same event last year. There are around 250 startup companies as well as 110 foreign buyers engaged in it.

More than twenty-five thousands of registration which reduced to over 100000 is expected by Wednesday. The entire session is guided by Anshu Prakash by sharing the details as well as the insights of the entrepreneurship which is the main motive of conducting the event. Not only this but also various other well-known entrepreneurs such Vihay Shekhar, Paytm founder, Kunal Bahl, Co-founder of Snapdeal, Hari Om Rai, Chairman of Lava Internationals have attended the event. Apart from this various other India heads were also present such as Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India Head as well as Vikas Agarwal, One Plus India Head.

All of them have shared their thoughts and opinions related to entrepreneurship. Kunal Bahl said, “Entrepreneurship is not easy. Knowing how to deal with failure is very critical. In the startup ecosystem, highs and very highs and lows are very low. It does not mean you cannot come out of the lows. A setback is a good set up for a comeback.”

Hari Om Rai, on the other hand, shared about his experience by saying, “If you are not failing, it means that you are in your comfort zone. To do something valuable, you will have to step out of your comfort zone.”

The government has invited Huawei for showcasing its prowess st the event which gives the clear indication that it has given its nod to the Chinese device maker for 5G trials. To this, a senior telecom department official said, “5G trials and IMC or its vendors are completely independent of each other. No one should get the indication that we have given our consent to Huawei. The decision on whether to allow Huawei for 5G trials or deployments have not been taken yet.”

On the other hand, Swedish telecom gear maker, Ericsson is all set to turn on the manufacture of 5G radios in our country. Nunzio Mirtillio, The Head of Market of South East Asia of Ericsson mentioned, “Erisson has been in India for over 115 years and our commitment to this market has only grown over the year.” He further mentioned, “In the year 2018, we announced the exports of radio products from our company in Pune and I can assure you that we are ready to turn on the manufacture of 5G radios here in India for India bands and prepared to start deployments.”

HE claimed that the brand is equipped with technology advancements, the supply chain capacity and the resources for meeting a fast ramp-up of the market demand as soon as the 5G technology has been introduced. It has already set up a live 5G network at its IMC booth which has the frequencies of 3.5 GHz as well as 28 GHz.
