Asus ROG Phone 2

The mobile gaming market has witnessed instant growth in recent times. And that is the reason why smartphone companies have started investing in making smartphones centralizing on high-end gaming. However, Asus is probably one of the oldest players in the smartphone and laptop market that has geeky, high-tech products perfect for mobile gaming. Last year we saw a whole new level of gaming smartphone from Asus by the name of ROG phone (which stands for Republic of Gamers). Asus ROG Phone belongs to a high-end smartphone budget but the device has still managed to capture eyes with an RGB-lit LED logo and few accessories to enhance the gaming experience.

While the first version was released by the end of 2018, the new one- ROG Phone 2 is likely to arrive in the market slightly earlier. Surprisingly, there is not a single detail out about the device yet and we also think that the announcement date will take up to six more months. But some reports coming from an industry publication DigiTimes, which has a great history of leak accuracy, says that ROG Phone 2 will be launched between July to September. According to the publication, the announcement will be made at the Computex event in Taiwan similar to last year’s first ROG. However, the show will likely take place by the end of May.

What do we know about the phone?

The only thing Asus has been active in the past few days is the partnership with Tencent. Coming along with the Chinese company lately, Asus is planning to promote a new device that will push Tencent games too. Note that, Tencent owns one of the best mobile games PUBG Mobile that has a reach of over 263 million players globally. This shows why Asus has been in talks with Tencent and how the company can be benefited by making gaming smartphones.

Previously, DigiTimes reported how two companies were finalized on how to collaborate and optimize a smartphone for Tencent games in February this year. Interestingly, Razer is already tied up with Tencent for optimizing both software as well as hardware. The Razer deal was announced in March this year but there are no devices or software released yet.

If we recall the previous ROG Phone, it was an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC device coupled with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It had a spectacular refresh rate of 90Hz with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on a 6-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display and a battery of 4000mAh.

If these were the specifications of the previous device, which are already enough to smoothly run many high-end mobile games, what else can we expect in ROG Phone 2?
