Apple Launchs The Second-Generation AirPods With 50% More Talk Time

The new version has no changes in the design as well as cost whatsoever. Released at $159, the Apple AirPods (2019) will be available in stores from next week. Under the hood, it features a new H1 processor installed- to increase the device talk time and to call out Siri without touching earbuds by simply saying “Hey Siri”. According to Apple, the new AirPods can connect to your device twice as fast as any other wireless earbuds due to the new chip.

The latest model will also have an optional wireless charging case which will combine to make AirPods worth $199. Apple’s move to offer a separate charging case is there because users upgrading to the new AirPods would already own a charging case. Moreover, for those who have a faulty charging case, you can buy a new one now for $79. Note that Apple didn’t mention anything about AirPower- the wireless charging pad designed to wirelessly charge iPhones and Apple Watch.

Apple is looking to expand its revenue with AirPods since last year’s iPhones failed to generate expected results. Interestingly, Apple Wearables, Home and Accessories segment generated $17 billion last year and AirPods are the key component of this particular segment. This number was a 50% hike on wearables than the year before it. This category also takes Apple Watch as well as Beats headphones under its roof.

Reportedly, the Cupertino is also working on a future version of AirPods that will be water resistant and will carry noise-canceling functionality. There are other players in that game too like Bose Corp. and Apple-owned Beats.

The new AirPods is Apple’s third product launch for the week after the two iPad variants including iPad Mini and iPad Air and an iMac. Moreover, Apple also announced new colors for the Apple Watch bands and a different pink color iPhone battery case. These recent product launches are actually setting up the platform for Apple’s expected video streaming and magazine subscription launch lined up at an event on March 25.
