Apple is reportedly working on releasing two new devices in the first half of 2019 named iPad and iPad Mini 5. Both the devices are rumored to be entry-level gadgets featuring mid-end configurations.
A report coming from DigiTimes suggested that Apple is all set to produce two new ‘entry-level’ iPad models. According to numerous rumors and leaks, one will be the successor of iPad Mini 4 whereas other will be an update to the 2018 iPad. Reports got the air when Apple’s touch-screen suppliers were spotted supplying components to the iPhone maker.
DigiTimes report was only indicating touch-screen supply information but we have other reports that back the claim of new iPads. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last year gave a report quoting a similar release time for the new iPads in 2019. According to those reports, iPad Mini 5 will sport an upgraded processor but a low-end display panel.
Apple iPad Mini 5 and iPad 2019 Previous Rumors and Reports
China Times last month released a report citing the price details of the upcoming entry-level iPads. These reports also denied any radical changes to the new hardware since the idea behind the early release is to keep prices down. Moreover, giving more information about the 9.7-inch 2018 iPad, the Chinese publication told that we can expect a minor upgrade of 0,3 inches in the display size referring that the new iPad will have a 10-inch panel.
The rumor mill churned some more information when Macrumors hinted at something similar. Apple may also announce the AirPods 2 that reportedly will have a new case designed specially to support wireless charging from the new AirPower mat.
In addition, this new version will reportedly have a wireless chip to enable “Hey Siri” functionality. The AirPower rumors are taking rounds of the internet since last year but for unknown reasons, it is still to get an official announcement from the company.
Apple iPad Mini 5 and iPad 2019 Leaked Renders and Panels
Last year, over the holidays, SlashLeaks reportedly released images of new iPad Mini 5 case. However, OnLeaks immediately shut it down claiming the case is a 2016 prototype image and has nothing to do with the new iPads.
Earlier this month, a number of pictures showed up on Twitter claiming to possibly be iPad Mini 5. These pictures highlighted an antenna line to support 4G connections. Other than that, it packed a lightning port, a headphone jack, and a home button. If these are to be believed, we might not be getting any big upgrades on the new devices. Also considering the reports out till now, Apple is finally eyeing for mid to lower end markets rather than the usual premium market base.
