The smartphone game saw went through some serious transformation in 2018 as once considered underdogs are now big league players of the game. We saw how Xiaomi came out as a budget smartphone leader as well as how Apple was replaced by Huawei in Q3 smartphone sales of 2018. And this all happened due to the evolving and mammoth market of India.
With that, we are at the end of the year and there have been brands such as Huawei, Asus, and Samsung who introduced new devices at the end of the year. However, every manufacturer out there has big plans for the start of 2019. With Samsung gearing up for the first foldable smartphone and Xiaomi looking to innovate further with Mi Mix 2S, here we are with a list of the most anticipated devices of 2019.
Samsung Galaxy F (2019)
It has been years since Samsung has been telling us about a foldable device technology. Samsung Galaxy F is around the internet since 2017 but the company failed to unveil anything until the developer conference held in November.
Samsung is now ready to get on with a 7.3-inch display device that will fold to transform into a 4.6 inches devices. Followers are eagerly waiting for the device to come out and we might see the new innovation in a couple of months. Let’s see if it turns out worth the wait or disappoints like ZTE’s effort.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Series
No matter how much excitement we get for Samsung Galaxy F, company’s legacy has been the Galaxy S series. And the fact Samsung Galaxy S10 marks a decade of the ultimate android flagship is what makes it special.
Customers will be able to put their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S10 device (or devices) next year. Before the likes of Huawei, Google Pixel, Asus, and many more, Galaxy S series has been the only reason for Apple’s defeat as the biggest smartphone seller.
Reports are there of three devices with 5.8 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.4 inches screen sizes. Moreover, a trio rear camera and introduction to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 powerhouse is also expected in the 10-year celebration of the series.
Pixel 3 Lite
Yes, there are still no official announcements of the device but tipsters and experts are quite sure that we have a Lite version of the Pixel 3 lined up from Google. The device reportedly will feature the same camera as of the flagship version but other specifications will be lowered down for a device that can be a cat among pigeons.
The budget device is rumored to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 at its heart and a pure Android 9 Pie so that it can be more affordable. There is no news of when or whether it will launch (or not).
Honor View 20
Let’s talk about something that is official and an open warning to all other companies planning for a “hole punch” display device release (*wink). Huawei holds the record of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturer and the rate was so fast that it beat Apple this year.
While Samsung first introduced anything about a screen with a hole in the display for selfie camera, Honor was first to implement it. And Honor View 20 will be their second device after Huawei Nova 4 to feature an in-display selfie camera with “hole punch”. The device is announced in China and is confirmed to launch on 22 January in Europe. The device will feature a 48-megapixel rear camera and next-gen technology at a mid-range budget.
Nokia 9 has been in rumors for quite some time. The hype of the device was so much at the peak that even Nokia 8 Sirocco was once called as Nokia 9.
The device is rumored to have five cameras on the rear. The front, however, will have a notched display. The reports have also been there about a special Qualcomm hardware for this elusive beast. While we all are still waiting for the device, it might get silent launch in early 2019.
You can never count out the big players. Apple has been holding on to its iPhones since the dawn of the day. The fact that iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR have not been able to impress buyers, confirms that Apple will come strongly this time around.
Though, we know that Apple iPhones are not getting 5G for now, the company will surely with more design innovation to maybe start a new trend.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 (Fall 2018)
We understand that the company is still unknown on this side of the Pacific but its dominance in the Indian and Chinese market has gained it a prominent name in the smartphone world. The two reasons why they are where they are right now-
- They are not afraid of taking chances with the design and specifications and
- They the quality and design at comparatively low prices.
Basically, on the prices that an average Indian can afford. And that is the reason we are excited for Xiaomi’s third iteration of the almost bezel-less, range-topping smartphone- the Mi Mix 3.
Notably, this was the phone that made bezel-less a trend. While speculations are around of an Oppo Find X-like slide-out camera in front for a full-screen usage and a whopping 10GB RAM. The biggest news around is that Mi Mix 3 might even support 5G networks. However, the global availability of the device is quite uncertain.
This is an official device that was announced by John Tudhope, the Director of Product Development of Sprint. LG and Sprint will be partnering to release this 5G-enabled device in nine cities around the USA in 2019. There is no other news about this device since LG as well as Sprint has kept quiet. While not mentioning any price, Tudhope did say that they will be keeping the price in line with other major flagship devices. We can expect a $1000 smartphone under the LG brand name.
